The Spartans opened up today with a game against the South Central Cougars. The Cougars scored 10 in the first two innings to come away with the 13-1 victory.

WSV started off slow and never really recovered. Tim Skidmore had a rough opening year start on the mound  by giving up a pair of 3-run homers in the first two innings. Skid seemed to have trouble locating his pitches and keeping the Cougars off-balance. Jeff Dees come in in the 2nd to throw 1 2/3 of relief.  Brian Witges finished the 4th up for the Spartans.

The offense could only manage 2 hits by Josh Smith and John Galloway. Spartan hitters struck out 5 times in 20 AB's.

The WSV Spartans need some fire and desire to compete and not want to lose. Hopefully the kinks are out and the Spartans are ready to have a successful season. Hard Work pays off in the end.

Spartans travel to Benton for a Varsity/JV DH on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
