The Benton Rangers swept a pair of games from the Spartans today. The Rangers won the firts 15-5 and the second of the DH 6-4.
 
In game 1, WSV jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead and looked sharp at the plate in doing so. Josh Smith lead the attack with a 2 run blast over the left field fence. The Rangers quickly got back 8 in the first and 5 in the 2nd.
 
Brian Witges struggled on the hill for the Spartans throwing just two innings. Jarod Talbert came in to throw in the 3rd and finished up. Talbert gave up 3 runs.
 
The Spartans offense was somewhat sluggishat the plate and just couldn;t seem to get going.
 
In game two, the Spartans put up more of a fight but fell 6-4 to the Rangers. Jeff Dees took the loss throwing a complete game. Dees threw well for the Spartans and kept them in the game the entire day.
 
John Galloway lead the offese going 3-4 in the second game. The Spartans battled but could not get over the hump. WSV had runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out and could not manage any runs.
 
The Spartans host West Frankfort on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
